#10: Automating Self-Regulation
#10: Automating Self-Regulation Learning to Solve Future Problems, Now Before we consider what actions to automate, it is important to ask: what actions should we automate? It's very easy to get lost in the details of automation, trying to automate everything we can, without considering what is actually worth automating. The best way (in my opinion) to determine which tasks are worth automating is to identify the actions in our lives that either (1) take the longest or (2) cause us the most stress (dysregulation). Next, apply the Pareto Principle (80/20 Rule) to see which of these actions are having the greatest impact on our time and stress. The 80/20 rule is that 80% of outputs are caused by 20% of inputs. Almost everything in life follows this principle... #9: Mental Safety From AI-nxiety
#9: Mental Safety From AI-nxiety Learning to Live With AI Continuing on Maslow's Hierarchy Level 2 with Financial Security and Mental Safety from Entries 6-8, this week I am going to touch on artificial intelligence (AI). This topic is massive. It's hard to emphasize how much detail and research goes into truly understanding AI. I have been researching AI for many years, much more seriously since 2020. I still feel as though I am barely scratching the surface. But that's okay. Understanding even some of the basics can provide a solid foundation for understanding the current and future impact of AI. Before we get to the stage of using AI to bolster Financial Security through future-proofing and automation, let's take a few minutes to address the Mental Safety component ✨ The goal of this entry is not to teach you everything about AI, that would be impossible. The goal is to identify a few concepts that will hopefully teach you about why AI is in the news so much lately and help alleviate the "AI-nxiety" that comes from public mass hysteria over change. Much of this anxiety arises from trying to deal with the uncertainty of AI. #8: Creating Income Without Burnout
#8: Creating Income Without Burnout Maximizing Momentum and Minimizing Friction Last week in Entry #7, I touched on quite a few topics related to Building a Sustainable Creation System for creating income without burnout. I explained how we can use data, information, and knowledge to direct the impact of our efforts when we share creations (including knowledge work) with others. In particular, I discussed the concepts of Natural Self-Expression, Self-Reflection, the Creator Economy, and Sustainable Creation. This week, we will continue analyzing Goal #2 from Entry #6: Structure a habit and task system that enables me to consistently build income to a level that meets my needs without burning myself out. Let's make the framework from last week more concrete by touching on how we can create actual income while minimizing burnout. #7: Building A Sustainable Creation System
#7: Building A Sustainable Creation System Analyzing Natural Self-Expression To Identify Existing Value Last week, we considered how to achieve the seemingly paradoxical combination of financial security and mental safety by looking at Level 2 of Maslow's hierarchy for guidance. To achieve this balance, I proposed two major goals: Generate sufficient income to satisfy my needs (food, debt, mortgage, retirement savings); Structure a habit and task system that enables me to consistently build income to a level that meets my needs without burning myself out. Last week we focused on goal #1. Let's move on to goal #2 ✨ This entry was originally published on August 5, 2023 and is available at www.wanderloots.com/recalibrating-7 Welcome to the Recalibrating Podcast 🧭 ✨ Join me as I explore the depth of what the world has to offer. #6: Financial Security and Mental Safety
#6: Financial Security and Mental Safety Prioritizing Individual Mental Models for Income Generation In this Entry, we are going to move on to the second layer of Maslow's Hierarchy. Now that we've covered the basics in Entries 1-5, let's continue on the path of self-actualization. The next layer of Maslow's hierarchy is security and safety needs. I generally associate this level with having a place to live and money to buy what I need (not want) in life. I need to be able to pay for food, debt, mortgage, and retirement savings. Having quit my job (see Entry #1), I know that I do not have the luxury of focusing solely on the base level of the Burnout Recovery pyramid, I also need to earn income. I want to earn income in a way that does not bring me back to a burnout phase like my last job. Additionally, I want to earn income while I am recovering from burnout. That is no small task. #5: Intuitively Onwards, Inwards, and Upwards
#5: Intuitively Onwards, Inwards, and Upwards Procrastination, Emotional Regulation, and Intuitive Creation Systems In this entry, I discuss how to break the loop of procrastination and overthinking. The goal is to recognize when I am in a loop, going in circles. By taking a mindful moment, I can reassess the situation and then intuitively take a different path. That path may not always be forwards 👀 I also talk about how the success of my physical habits has helped deepen my mental and creative habits. Rather than staying in the loop of logical productivity, I mindfully break the loop through intuition. As you read, take a moment to set a mindful intention: think about where you are looping in your life. Are there habits you are blocking yourself from starting due to procrastination? Are you ready? Let's get started ✨ Welcome to the Recalibrating Podcast 🧭 ✨ Join me as I explore the depth of what the world has to offer. #4: Beginning With Breath
Entry #4: Beginning With Breath Habit Stacking on a Foundation of Breathing One week into my "funemployment" I decided to take some time to look back and reflect on what I had accomplished and how I could improve next week. I actually still felt a bit burnt out; the opposite of my intentions. My system was not fully working. Something still needed to change. I realized that, while I had laid out my best intentions to maintain my physical and mental health by prioritizing them in my habits, I ended up falling into the productivity trap. I felt a pressure to get my business started as quickly as possible. I have had many ideas over the last 5 years and I was so excited to get started on them that I wanted to start them all at once 🤦♂️ Welcome to the Recalibrating Podcast 🧭 ✨ Join me as I explore the depth of what the world has to offer. #3: Building Habits From The Ground Up
Entry #3: Building Habits From The Ground Up Satisfying the Basic Needs of Maslow's Hierarchy To not only reach self-actualization, but also to reach it consistently, I knew that I would need to start from the beginning. I needed to undergo a complete change in my daily approach to life. Based on my goals and personality, I knew I would benefit from adding structure to my days in a way that introduced continuous building. Each day, a new building block can be formed that can connect to the previous day to build towards the person I have always been meant to be. For me, and I think most people, each step on the path to self-actualization can be stabilized by meeting the basic physical and mental needs (the bottom layer of Maslow's hierarchy). This foundation makes sense: I know that my ideal me is not someone who is unhealthy and unhappy. But what is my ideal me? That is a question for each of us to decide. Base is driving international expansion by supporting decentralized builder communities like FBI in India and Builders Connect in Nigeria. They are focused on empowering local builders and providing resources to help them grow.
#2 The Path Of Self-Actualization
Entry #2: The Path of Self-Actualization Burnout Recovery From The Ground Up One month ago I gave my resignation. Yesterday was my last day 😌 I resigned from the intellectual property law firm I have worked at since 2016. Many people have asked me what I am doing next? Which firm I am going to? Which company have I joined? The answer? Nothing, none of them. Welcome to the Recalibrating Podcast 🧭 ✨ Join me as I explore the depth of what the world has to offer.
