GM Farcaster ep217 Wednesday February 19, 2025 with @rachelw and @voltonchain

GM Farcaster ep217 Wednesday February 19, 2025 with @rachelw and @voltonchain Thanks to my guest cohost Rachel Wilkins @rachelw for filling in today. AND to our guests from Volt.ag @voltonchain for dropping in to chat about their defi lending platform on Base. Learn more at: https://volt.ag/ AND Thanks as always to our sponsors Lil Nouns! Visit LilNouns.wtf to snap up your own Lil Noun and join the DAO! Learn more in /lilnounsdao channel on Warpcast. From our ChatGPT Intern: Today’s GM Farcaster descends into absolute madness over the birth of ‘Warplet,’ a term that started as a joke about Warpcast wallets and somehow turned into the platform’s latest meme obsession (whether Dan Romero likes it or not). Between debates over whether Warplet should be banned, the IRS crashing the airdrop party with 1099 forms, and ETH Denver plans spiraling into karaoke-fueled chaos, this episode proves that Farcaster is less of a social network and more of a beautifully unhinged group chat.Show Notes and Links – some of the casts & stuff we talked about:  Links for @rachelw and /goodnews:https://warpcast.com/rachelw/0xc077b997https://warpcast.com/rachelw/0x6385942fhttps://warpcast.com/rachelw/0x538c06dahttps://warpcast.com/rachelw/0xefa72f7ehttps://warpcast.com/rachelw/0xb2dd00ce Warpcast Wallet rolled out to more users:https://warpcast.com/v/0x0fe27024 Warplet – so much warplet:https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x92cc328ahttps://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x4d0f52f2https://warpcast.com/woj.eth/0xbfc2d921https://warpcast.com/horsefacts.eth/0x30326250https://warpcast.com/cassie/0xbb333c0ehttps://warpcast.com/christopher/0xbd08fd6dhttps://warpcast.com/alexgrover.eth/0xd53683abhttps://warpcast.com/burrrrrberry/0xb66a79f2https://warpcast.com/pugson/0x9c26e96chttps://warpcast.com/cameron/0xa9607d2bhttps://warpcast.com/rubinovitz/0x76f5d13dhttps://warpcast.com/alinaferry/0x6bb59566https://warpcast.com/tldr/0xf9d611dehttps://warpcast.com/pugson/0x2d7f5416https://warpcast.com/jdl/0xeebacd34 What would a warplet look like?https://warpcast.com/blockheim/0x7533374chttps://warpcast.com/yes2crypto.eth/0xa7ac9281https://warpcast.com/brettdrawsstuff/0xf56b16a1https://warpcast.com/brettdrawsstuff/0x965638eehttps://warpcast.com/pichi/0x1678a3c1 Changes to Warpcast Rewards:https://warpcast.com/v/0xa87ecf78 And sure, you can put that on your Linkedin:https://warpcast.com/sdv.eth/0x330d4f5bPlease no ser, not the voodoo doll:https://warpcast.com/sdv.eth/0xd15a5489https://warpcast.com/sdv.eth/0xbd91d64f Now this is a great starter pack!https://warpcast.com/aneri/0x2e9213e3 Eth Denver plans heating up!https://warpcast.com/nounishprof/0x4d5edb9dhttps://warpcast.com/samuellhuber.eth/0xbedd7a19https://warpcast.com/samuellhuber.eth/0x9bc093d7https://warpcast.com/rachelw/0x6f8d3c0f So you got some rewards in your warplet? 9: Jacob Horne - Markets for What Matters

Jacob Horne (Website, Zora, X, Farcaster), is co-founder and CEO of Zora, a platform that allows the tokenization of media.Jacob started his career at Coinbase where he was a product lead and helped create USDC. Five years ago, he left to wade deeper into the waters of internet and crypto-native coordination and creativity and co-founded Zora. His central interest is how people coordinate together using the internet—the includes currencies, markets, ownership, art, speculation, and memes. We discuss how memes and symbols enable coordination, "The Meme and the Memo," words, money, and laws, Zora's premise built on Stewart Brand's "information wants to be free but it also wants to be expensive," a case for markets around attention, the new version of Zora and "a coin for every piece of content," speculation vs. gambling, token-powered brands, Ethereum and Solana, Coinbase and USDC, and a wide-ranging personal section that showcases why Jacob is so generative. The parting prompt I hope this conversation leaves all of us with is this: while information is ~free today (and also abundant, infinite), it is also quite expensive to consume in terms of time. We ought to think carefully about what content we spend our precious time consuming and rewarding. That you would spend some of yours listening to Dialectic is as always a privilege and I hope you find it worthwhile.Timestamps (3:03): Obsession with Memes: How do you get people to organize? MegaETH's plan to save Ethereum (and beat Solana at their own game)

How does ETH get its swagger back? According to Namik Muduroglu from MegaETH, the answer is forgetting memecoin nonsense, getting back to its "world computer" roots, and adopting a Bronze Age mentality. Josh and guest host Nicholas dive deep into MegaETH's innovative architecture, which separates consensus from execution, and unlocks unparalleled performance. Namik shares insights on incubating killer apps to demonstrate the chain's potential and their unique community fundraising approach. The discussion also touches on the competitive landscape, highlighting Solana as a key rival. Meanwhile, the Farcaster leaderboard gets shaken up as Ted joins Merkel, meaning we all move up by default, and the crew debates whether bribing your way into a Farcaster job with organic granola bars is a valid strategy.Show Notes and Links – some of the casts & stuff we talked about:  Lil Poker:https://warpcast.com/nounishprof/0x2a07b626The bagels knew:https://warpcast.com/nounishprof/0x01cd173b Great use of channels – Super Bowl channel:https://warpcast.com/~/channel/superbowl-lixSuper Bowl memes on point:https://warpcast.com/cryptowenmoon.eth/0x80518c6ehttps://warpcast.com/superanon/0x46a086a7https://warpcast.com/sgniwder/0x4e0d39d7Bracky’s big night:https://warpcast.com/bracky/0x4ad8a00dDave is FAFOing:https://warpcast.com/bracky/0x4ad8a00dwho is not the new hire:https://warpcast.com/bracky/0x4ad8a00dhttps://warpcast.com/superanon/0x721ec94cWelcome @ted to the Merkle team:https://warpcast.com/ted/0xc7a87434https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0xe1b65a8dhttps://warpcast.com/swampnet/0xfc42a63fhttps://warpcast.com/afrochicks/0xe8012f9chttps://warpcast.com/cojo.eth/0x025a73abhttps://warpcast.com/eulerlagrange.eth/0x3f837e1ahttps://warpcast.com/phil/0x34799289https://warpcast.com/tldr/0x0f23ca0aHappy Degeniversary!https://warpcast.com/angelikakollin/0xa198ea11https://warpcast.com/matthewfox/0x1c845efdhttps://warpcast.com/samuellhuber.eth/0x251be887https://warpcast.com/matthewfox/0x80f906ffDegen shop is here:https://warpcast.com/samuellhuber.eth/0x251be887 Afrochicks and Zerorightsmedia collab:https://warpcast.com/toadyhawk.eth/0xb912a672Is Ethereum made of steel?https://warpcast.com/chinmay.eth/0xda9e300f Don’t kill my Mons:https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0xc307566eWhat are you frustrated about?https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x0158d313these 3d printers are so cute:https://warpcast.com/july/0x47d81555https://warpcast.com/tldr/0x93d1653e Big changes coming to Ham:https://warpcast.com/deployer/0xda19c69aMoxie_ai coming:https://warpcast.com/betashop.eth/0x64f8b0ca Who’s going to be in Paris?https://warpcast.com/rachelw/0xeedb0c9cBase country leads:https://warpcast.com/xenbh.eth/0x59cb5e15We are stardust:https://warpcast.com/astromarkc/0x9cbcd6aa Debbie & her book Digital Mavericks on GMFC Friday:https://warpcast.com/debbie/0xf117b0c1 Dark Nouns coming tomorrow:https://warpcast.com/goyabean-/0x1c4998ac Free compliment:https://warpcast.com/adrienne/0x289a3510 And some other casts we didn’t get a chance to chat about: Farcaster fnames and ens:https://warpcast.com/v/0xefdce20c 29 seconds of Farcaster news:https://warpcast.com/bradq/0xe1190951Stay focused:https://warpcast.com/yekim.eth/0x0bd5f6ee And our musings elsewhere: Mint this episode on pods.media:https://pods.media/gm-farcaster Adrienne: Some of the Things: Too Many Thingshttps://someofthethings.substack.com/p/too-many-things Nounish Prof: Unpacking with Prof:  https://paragraph.xyz/@nounishprof AND www.gmfarcaster.com is live alongwith our GM Farcaster FAQ: https://paragraph.xyz/@adrienne/gm-farcaster-faq Copyright 2024 cc-by GM Farcaster - reuse/remix allowed with attribution and link back toGMFarcaster.com. NOTE: Cryptocurrencies are often volatile assets. 8: Steph Ango - Tools for Amplifying Our Light

Steph Ango aka Kepano (Website, X) is a designer, writer, entrepreneur, and toolmaker, best known as the CEO of Obsidian, a powerful and flexible writing and thinking tool. Steph's education is in biology and industrial design, but he is true multi-hyphenate creative, working across mediums including software, hardware, supply chain and packaging, words, wood, furniture, ink, color schemes, open-source systems, video, podcasts, and more. Above all, he makes tools—deeply opinionated ones—designed to reduce friction for himself and others in the act of creating. Steph joined Obsidian after initially contributing as a fan and enthusiast and impressing its co-founders, Shida Li and Erica Xu. Under his leadership, Obsidian has grown into one of the most beloved and powerful independent software tools in the world, with millions of users. As a daily user myself, I rely on Obsidian for my research and thinking for this podcast. Before Obsidian, Steph founded Lumi and Inkodye, the former of which was acquired by Narvar. Beyond design, Steph is one of my favorite writers. His concise, sub-500-word essays have shaped my thinking on design, software, learning, agency, constraints, and creativity. While we couldn’t cover all of his ideas in this conversation, we explored many of them in what became my longest conversation to date—one that is packed with wisdom. I believe these ideas will challenge you in unexpected ways and push you to be more creative, agentic, and optimistic. Transcript for episode 8.
