The Role of Operators, Slashing, and Liquid Restaking with EigenExplorer

Welcome to the 1st episode of EigenLayer Unlocked. This episode is meant to be a primer into how restaking fundamentally works, the key players in the restaking system, and why EigenLayer is leading this category today. At its core, restaking allows users to earn additional rewards by taking on slashing risks, offering a way to maximize risk-adjusted returns. EigenExplorer introduces a novel concept through operator quorums (now referred to as operator sets), which bring more granularity and customization to how services, operators, and stakers interact. These operator sets create tiers of services, allowing for more tailored, efficient staking choices that can yield vastly different outcomes depending on the strategy employed. One of the standout points in today’s discussion is the direct liquid restaking system EigenExplorer is building, designed to simplify decision-making for stakers by enabling them to delegate assets to specific services. This streamlines the process, making it easier for stakers to manage risk and rewards without diving into complex configurations. Additionally, strategy managers play a crucial role in helping stakers navigate this space, acting as market makers who optimize yield and manage risks across different services. As the market matures, data transparency and better tools for managing operator quorums will be key to improving market efficiency and ensuring everyone benefits from these innovations. As the first episode in the series, we wanted to prioritize an understanding of restaking and its core parts. Why EigenLayer Gave Away More Tokens After Widespread Criticism of Its Stakedrop

EigenLayer has been in the news this week after it announced its ‘stakedrop,’ where it will distribute EIGEN tokens to early users of the restaking platform. Sreeram Kannan, founder and CEO of EigenLayer, and Robert Drost, CEO and executive director of the Eigen Foundation, discuss the launch of the token, a “universal intersubjective work token” and how it allows for slashing, or penalizing, for externally observable faults, such as data unavailability. The Eigen Foundation, a non-profit entity based in the Cayman Islands, was also recently established to grow the protocol and assist in creating a decentralized community. They also address criticisms of the token's launch, including geoblocking and the initial non-transferability of stakedrops for the community and explain why they decided to allocate an additional 100 EIGEN tokens for all participants in the stakedrop. Plus, they reveal a target date by when a decision about the token unlock date should be made.

Celestine Sloths, Alloyed Assets, And Hyperbitcoinization with Sunny Aggarwal

The evolution of the modular thesis doesn't go without saying Osmosis and the Cosmos ecosystem. Being the hub of liquidity for the modular ecosystem assets (TIA, DYM, OSMO), Osmosis plays an important role for the space. In today's interview with co-founder Sunny Aggarwal, we discuss the recent rise of Celestine Sloths and how features like the Skip API allows for seamless cross-chain transactions, enabling users to mint NFTs on Stargaze by swapping currencies through Osmosis in a single transaction. This is a mega leap forward in interchain fluidity and for all of those who minted Sloths, you understand. We then went onto discuss the Mad Scientists collection which has recently gained traction, (Sunny's PFP) and how the tech behind this collection works.We discussed Backbone Labs and the plan to distribute a significant portion of protocol revenues to holders, and whether or not this "real yield" is bullish. Shortly after, we discussed the proposal from Osmosis about alloyed assets. Osmosis has introduced the concept of alloyed assets, which aggregrate various tokens into a unified asset pool to manage liquidity more effectively. This approach not only mitigates risks associated with individual bridge failures but also streamlines asset management across chains, thus simplifying the user experience significantly. But, is it really the best solution? We asked Sunny about the risks associated, some edge cases, and really dug into some areas where we feel they may have fell short... Sunny stepped up to the plate and addressed our concerns as always. Finally, towards the end of the podcast we talked about the hyperbitcoinization of Cosmos with players like Babylon and others. After the Bitcoin Halving, Will the Runes Protocol Live Up to the Hype?

Not only will April 20 (or 19, depending on which part of the world you are) mark the fourth Bitcoin halving, but also the launch of a new primitive on Bitcoin called Runes Protocol. Charlie Spears, co-founder of Blackspace Media, joined Unchained to talk about all things Runes, which is a messaging protocol that allows for the creation of fungible tokens on Bitcoin. It is designed to fix some of the issues with the BRC-20 token standard, such as inefficiency and proliferation of unspent transaction outputs. Charlie believes that the launch of Runes will increase demand for Bitcoin's blockspace and potentially lead to higher transaction fees. He also discusses the potential for Runes to interact with Bitcoin covenants and layer two solutions.
