How Solana Beat Out Ethereum to Nab New Crypto Developers in 2024
The 2024 Developer Report from Electric Capital reveals many shifting dynamics. For starters, for the first time in eight years, Ethereum was not the top chain for new developers—Solana was. Meanwhile, Asia has emerged as the leading hub for crypto development, taking the top spot from North America, which dropped to third. In this episode, General Partner Maria Shen explores how Ethereum's Layer 2 solutions are bolstering its position despite fierce competition, why the Bitcoin developer ecosystem remains steadfast, and how emerging projects like EigenLayer are capturing builders’ attention. She also delves into the top crypto technologies that are fascinating devs, and how their usage and development activity differ across the globe.

Vitalik Buterin Aped Into the Social Media App Anoncast. What's It About?
Farcaster-based social media app Anoncast has quickly grabbed the crypto community’s attention—especially after Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin jumped in. The platform allows users to speak freely while ensuring no one—not even the platform itself—can trace their identity. And in its short week-and-a-half life span, it’s already generated thousands of posts. In this lighter, Black Friday edition of Unchained, developer Kartik Patel joins to discuss how Anoncast works and why the platform has taken off so quickly. He shares insights on the challenges of maintaining anonymity in a connected world, how AI intersects with these developments, and what it was like to “nerd-snipe” Buterin.

1: Jason Liu - The Freedom in Being Nobody
Jason Liu is a technologist, consultant, teacher, and friend. He spent the first part of his career as a machine learning engineer, mostly at Stitchfix, only to run into a wall: a hand injury that prevented him from being able to write any software for over a year. Fortunately, he's not so one-dimensional, and spent time reclaiming somatic experience in learning to free-dive, train Jiu-Jitsu, and return to the pottery practice he developed in art school, all while reckoning with big questions of ambition, purpose, and self-fulfillment. Since then, he's built a consulting practice helping modern AI companies better implement RAG (retrieval-augmented generation), avoid system design mistakes, hire elite talent, and build for an LLM-centric world. He maintains a large structured output library called Instructor with about 1m downloads per month, writes prolifically (which he does entirely via voice input with LLM editing, as we discuss), tweets semi-manically (he's grown to 30K followers on X with the simplest strategy I've ever heard anyone articulate—tweeting 30K times), and teaches courses on RAG and online consulting. Finally, my man can yap. He was a perfect first guest because he has no shortage of ideas but comes at nearly everything with a beginner's mindset. Can Crypto Accelerate Scientific Breakthroughs? w/ Tyler from Triplicate | Ep. 56
Tyler is putting Science back into the hands of the people. In episode #56 of Internet Explorers, Jess and Josh explore the forefront of decentralized science (DeSci) with Tyler from Triplicate, unpacking how blockchain is unlocking new funding models, democratizing research, and enabling cutting-edge projects like molecular therapeutics and patient-driven clinical trials. They analyze how these decentralized approaches are breaking free from the constraints of traditional institutions and incentivizing innovation in unexpected ways. The discussion shifts to distribution-first software, a paradigm focused on leveraging social networks and decentralized platforms to maximize reach and adoption before building standalone products. They also examine the concept of Moats in the age of AI, debating whether traditional business defensibility strategies hold up in a world of open-source models and rapidly evolving technologies. Later, they reflect on the growing presence of normies in degen crypto spaces, and the unhinged activities occurring on pump.fun (jess is scared). The episode concludes with ai16z drama, reflecting on how it's more difficult it is to build when a token is involved. 0:00 - Intro 1:08 - Start of Episode 4:26 - DeSci 37:07 - Distribution-First Software 42:38 - Moats In The Age Of AI 49:32 - The Normies Are Here 54:48 - ai16z Drama Internet Explorers is a weekly rundown show where extremely online individuals broadly explore (romanticize, even) new consumer internet experiences. Caitlin Long on Why the Fed’s Rejections of Custodia Bank Seem Politically Motivated
Custodia, established as a special purpose depository institution in Wyoming, aimed to offer secure banking services for the crypto sector. In this episode, Caitlin and Michelle explain why they believe the Fed’s rejection was politically motivated, how this relates to Operation Choke Point 2.0, the appallingly small number of American banks owned by women, where they are in their lawsuit against the Fed, and what this case means for the future of crypto banking in the U.S.
