Ep.1 - WTF is Hydra?

Summary Welcome to the inaugural episode of the Hydra Podcast Series. Hydra Ventures DAO was summoned to invest in and incubate the next generation of community-first investment DAOs and to proliferate a landscape of organisational innovations in investing. We’re a DAO fund of funds composed of DAO operators, professional service providers, founders, and Web3 VCs with a mission to establish new market-standard practices for how investment DAOs are designed and operated. Join us to learn more about DAOs, investing and the new opportunities that the power of human coordination could unlock. In this episode of the Hydra Ventures Podcast, the hosts delve into the world of community-driven investment DAOs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations), focusing on Hydra Ventures. The podcast explores its mission, challenges, strategies, and vision in the decentralised investment landscape. The episode begins with an explanation of Hydra Ventures as a "DAO of DAOs" that invests in various investment DAOs. The guests, founders, and key members of Hydra Ventures, discuss its formation and objectives. They highlight the organisation's core mission to iterate on the investment DAO model and create a dedicated capital pool for such ventures. The importance of community in DAOs is emphasised, noting that intrinsic motivation and collective learning drive member participation. The conversation shifts to discussing Hydra's diverse membership and their areas of expertise. The challenges faced by DAOs, such as governance and member engagement, are also addressed, highlighting the strategies Hydra employs to overcome these hurdles. One segment focuses on the relationship between Hydra Ventures and a Web3 Professional Services Agency. It's explained how they provide operational, strategic, and coordination support, essential for the DAO's efficiency and success. The podcast also covers the operational challenges in DAOs, specifically the importance of maintaining context and alignment among members. Hydra's governance approach, including incentive systems to encourage participation and avoid common DAO problems, is discussed in detail. An exploration of Hydra's incubation process for new DAOs is provided. The criteria for selecting communities for DAO formation and the support provided in legal, operational, and cultural aspects are outlined, emphasising the importance of a strong foundational structure for success. In a rapid-fire session, each guest shares their personal experiences in the crypto world, the projects that captivated them, and their perspectives on controversial topics within the crypto community. The episode concludes with a discussion on how to engage with Hydra Ventures and each guest's vision for its success. They express hope that Hydra will validate the community-driven investment model, expand DAO accessibility, and foster an ecosystem where DAOs are seen as a competitive option for collaborative investment and innovation. S2 E17 | Music NFTs, Community Building, Education & More w/LATASHÁ

Collectors of this episode will be able to nominate guests for Season 7 of the podcast starting in January 2024. Latashá is a musical artist, Head of Community at Zora, Founder of Zoratopia, and Contributor to herstoryDAO, refractionDAO, unicornDAO, and FWB. We kickoff the episode with Latasha sharing a bit about her background and how she got into music NFTs. Although she was skeptical at first, she eventually embraced NFTs as a way to monetize her work while retaining ownership over it, and she leaves listeners who may also feel skeptical with some advice on beginning to navigate web3. We dive into how web3 is changing artists’ relationships with their producers, fans, and labels - ultimately giving more power to the creators and their fans. We discuss some aspects of the music space that web3 is improving (like increasing the speed of payment to artists) as well as some areas that still need some work. We get into the topic of community and Latashá shares her secret sauce to creating a strong and loyal fanbase. We also discuss the importance of diversity in web3, including how to consciously curate it in communities, and why it seems to be a challenge for some companies. To close out our conversation, Latashá leaves listeners with some advice for starting a music career in 2022 and she shares how you can get involved with Zoratopia. S3 E2 | Non-Financial Use Cases for Tokens w/David Phelps

Collectors of this episode will be able to nominate guests for Season 7 of the podcast starting in January 2024. On this Episode of Rehash, we sat down with David Phelps. On top of being the founder of JokeDAO and an investor at Cowfund, David is also a writer, thinker, and talented shitposter. Contrary to what his boyish looks might suggest, David is a boomer who spent his prior life in the web2 and education spaces. After starting a tutoring agency that gave tutors a much larger slice of the revenue pie, David found his way into the web3 DAO space. Today, he continues to focus on projects that give creators and users the ownership and compensation that they deserve. JokeDAO is an on-chain governance platform used by web3 projects (including Rehash!) to create and run contests in a fair, decentralized manner. In the short time since it popped up, JokeDAO has been used by other creators like Packy McCormick and organizations like Tally and Jukebox to give their communities a stronger voice in what they’re making. As someone who spends much of his time thinking about and working on governance, David brings us on a deep dive into its nuances. We discuss the role of tokens in voting and online communities, why governance should be chaotic, and some of the unique challenges JokeDAO has faced. David also tells us about the intricate ways that JokeDAO could be used to create more community-aligned proposals and decisions. Aside from governance, David explains the potential of blockchains and projects like Cosmos and Celestia, gives his bullish argument for web3, and breaks down what he looks for when investing in the space. For good measure, we also make plenty of cow jokes, we take a look at the line between governance and moderation, David shills Cosmos, and he explains why beavers (real ones, not from cartoons) should be the official symbol of JokeDAO.

S3 E10 | The Evolution of Media w/Steph Alinsug

Collectors of this episode will be able to nominate guests for Season 7 of the podcast starting in January 2024. In this episode of Rehash, we sat down with Steph Alinsug, Media Steward at Seed Club - an accelerator program for DAOs and DAO builders. When Steph first heard about crypto from a podcast, the concept of DAOs and social tokens clicked for her right away. With previous careers as a branding specialist and a community organizer, she was always looking for a way to bring those two passions together. Web3 offered an opportunity to do just that. Steph’s community-first branding approach lent itself nicely to her role at Seed Club, and she realized that the content she was creating wasn’t just content for the sake of marketing, but media that leveraged storytelling and community building to impact people with aligned values. This key difference is precisely what distinguishes content as we know it in web2 from the decentralized media of web3. We dive into all of the nuances surrounding content, branding, marketing, media, decentralized media, web3 media, media in DAOs, and decentralized content creation. Although we use some of these terms interchangeably, Steph breaks down how she distinctly thinks about them, and we discuss Rafa’s project Folklore - a leading example of community first media. We double click on the human side of all of this as we discuss the inevitable hierarchy in DAOs, how media DAOs can progressively decentralize, ownership over the media you create, and the role curation plays in the decentralization of media. We also talk more broadly about conflict resolution and how imperative human to human relationships are as we explore new ways to organize ourselves and produce meaningful work in DAOs. We close out our conversation with a few fun questions and Steph tells us how to find her and Seed Club on Twitter.
